small changes, big rewards

No, this post is not about me cutting back on cardio and seeing huge changes even though I am seeing some changes and it certainly has not hurt me a bit. The world did not end and I did not gain 10lbs in a week. Wow and I have saved myself so much time. Oh yow, back to what I was originally posting about, my husband. He is genetically a very lucky man. He holds very little body fat, has always eaten whatever and how much he wanted. For years his mom keeps telling him that it will catch up with you just wait, well he is 46 and he still looks pretty much the same as he did 20 years ago, just less hair:)He does have just a wee bit of a belly though but a weightlifter butt and me likeeeee. The doctor tells him that his cholesterol is just a little high and to work on getting it down. Here are just a few of the changes he made that made all the difference in the world. By the way, he is 5' 10" and weighed 208 before the changes. His diet consisted of anything and everything but he would eat clean food for dinner because that is all I would make at home but he would snack all night long. Little Debbie's were his main snack, he was addicted to them. Not anymore.........

He has not eaten one in months

He substitutes those in his lunch for fruit or yogurt

He takes more protein in his lunch such as beef jerky and almonds

He switched from real mayo to a lower fat version

He switched from whole milk to 2% because he says 1% might as well be water

He eats oatmeal or grain cereal instead of donuts or nothing for breakfast

He no longer snacks at night

He switched from real chips to baked potato chips for his lunch

When he eats out for lunch he only goes to Subway and gets the same thing every time with 1/2 the cheese.

He also stopped eating so many eggs and when he makes an omelet he only uses one egg yolk to 5 egg whites, much better than 5-6 eggs huh?

He does however take a real cheat day once a week with me cause well, its fun and so far

He is down to 189lbs, not even a wee bit of a belly and he has more energy and his doctors appointment is next month and I am anxious to see how low his cholesterol is. It is amazing how small changes can reap big rewards and not really inconvenience a person.

It is a good thing he has been working on this because he stopped to get some milk after work and made the mistake of stopping in a really bad part of town to do it. There was a huge fight between two girls going on in the parking lot and two guys trying to break it up then along comes this third guy who all of a sudden out of nowhere starts charging at my husband who was just walking to his car. He said he saw him out of the corner of his eye and he quickly turned around and before the guy could do anything my husband did the old karate chop on him and down he went to the ground and never got up. He thinks he may have broken his leg because he got him right in the side of the knee as hard as he could with steel toed boots on. He said he must have been about 20-25 years old. What makes a punk kid think that he can take on a grown man? They have had a lot more years to be pissed at the world so they are going to kick booty no matter what. When he got home I could tell he was still having an adrenaline rush and I immediately asked him "What happened"? We have been together so long I just know him that well to know something had happened. It just scares me cause the guy probably had a knife or something he just never had the chance to use it. Scary huh?

Thank goodness your Hubby was strong enough and fast enough. VERY scary. I'm so happy for you both that he was able to take on eating healthier so easily. It would take a Mac truck to smack my Hubby in the head to make him stop eating so bad. Can't wait to hear about his test results!

So, cutting down your cardio - good or bad?

Wow, I can tell how proud and in love you are with your man...it's very nice to see/read. Good for him making all those changes, and just like all men, they lose that weight so fast!!! It's so not fair. Muscle matters ;)

Young guys think they are king of the world and can take on anyone! I'm so glad your hubby was quick and layed that guy flat! Next time he needs to go to another store though ;)

Wow, how scary! I love how your hubby said he's had a lot more years to be angry at the world! So awesome that he is taking better care of himself! I actually notice a trend in young fit men needing heart surgery, the ones that could always eat anything they want and still look great. It's a good thing he is taking care of his insides, and he is already seeing the benefits!! Awesome!!
